PETROL INJECTION SUPPLY – Audi 80

PETROL INJECTION SUPPLY – Audi 80

Five different injection systems were used in the Audi 80 B3 engines.

The K-Jetronic injection system was used in the engine 1,8 dm3, marked with the DZ symbol, and in the engine 1,6 dm3, marked ABB. Hydraulically controlled continuous injection (without breaks) distinguishes this system from others; hence the name of the system "K” – constant.

A Mono-Jetronic injection system was used in the engine 1,8 dm3 of capacity 66 kW, marked with the symbol PM and under the name Mono-Motronic in engines 1,6 dm3 (ABM) i 2,0 dm3 (ABT). The main part of the system is the centrally located injection system, fuel supply through the throttle.

KE-Motronic or KE-Monotronic supplies the engines with power 2,0 dm3, marked with the symbols 3A and ADD, and sixteen-valve engines.

The Digifant multipoint injection system was used in the engine 2,0 dm3, marked with ABK. The systems are structured differently and will therefore be described separately.

Work safety regulations

Observe the following rules when repairing the engine involving the disassembly of the lines.

■ Thoroughly clean dirt from the nuts of the cable connections and their immediate surroundings.

■ Store removed parts in a clean place, sheathed with paper or plastic film. Lint-free materials must not be used. Do not touch the dismantled parts with greasy fingers.

■ Removed parts, if not reused, set aside and store in boxes or other containers.

■ New spare parts should be unpacked immediately before installation.

■ When the injection hose connectors are open, do not use compressed air to clean other engine parts. It is also not allowed to roll the car.

Some parts of the injection systems are electronically coupled to the ignition system, therefore it is advisable to exercise caution during repairs.

■ When disconnecting and connecting ignition cables, connected to the injection system or measuring instruments, the ignition must be switched off.

■ When cranking the engine without intending to start it (np. to check the compression pressure) it is absolutely necessary to disconnect the ignition wire „4″ and connect to the ground of the car.

■ When starting the engine with a starting device, the starting voltage should not exceed 1 6,5 V and the start-up time not longer than 1 minute.

■ Switch off the ignition when washing the engine with fluids.

■ Disconnect both poles of the battery during welding work.

■ Disconnect the control unit when towing a car with a damaged injection or ignition system.
