Gottlieb Daimler was born in 1834 r. in Schrondorf, lying in the distance 30 km east of Stuttgart, as the second of four children of master bakery Johannes Daimler. After graduating from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart, he spent two years in England, working in a machine building factory. W 1882 r. Together with his associate Wilhelm Maybach he settled in Bad Canstatt. In August 1883 he constructed the first high-speed gasoline engine here, for which he obtained a patent.

Three years later, Daimler built the first four-wheeled car. The chassis and the body were provided by the royal horse-drawn vehicle factory, W. wimp & Son of Stuttgart. The first public test drive was made by Daimler's car on the day 4 brand 1887 r.

W 1889 r. Daimler abandoned the body of a horse-drawn carriage and built a steel chassis for its car. In a vehicle on steel wheels, called Stahlradwagen, there was a built-in 2-cylinder V-engine. The car on display at the world exhibition in Paris at the Panhard stand & Levassor, sparked great interest.

Mercedes cars became the representatives of the new Daimler models, which from 1901 r. they also took part in car races. Their creator was, admittedly, Wilhelm Maybach, but the production was initiated by Emil Jellinek, attache of the Consulate General of Austria-Hungary in Nice and general representative of Daimler in France. W 1899 r. after winning the Daimler Phónix model in the races Nice - Castellane - Puget - Thermies - Nice, in which he participated in a car named after him 11 -summer daughter - Mercedes, Jellinek ordered 36 cars of a new type for the French market. Following the continued success of these cars on race tracks from. 1902 all Daimler models were named after Mercedes.

W 1903 r. three weeks before the race for the Gordon Bennett Cup, a fire broke out in Canstatt. In a matter of minutes, it destroyed buildings, machines and sixty finished cars, among them - three prepared for the race. The cause of the fire has not been clarified. The factory was moved to Stuttgart-Unterturkheim, and it was headed by Paul Daimler.

After the war, there was a period of success. The Mercedes Knight model contributed to this 16/50 PS with valveless engine, constructed by Paul Daimler based on the patent of the American Charles Knight. W 1921 r. The era of Daimler compressor vehicles has begun, and later Daimler-Benz, because in June 1926 r. Daimler took over the Benz plants & Co.
