DARIO STAYS (1884-1924) – Italian

An English player of Italian origin, Dario Stay, achieved effects during his relatively short career, few could boast of. He was the first of the European players, who also gained fame on US tracks, winning the title of US champion in motor racing. Except that, driving a Peugeot car, which probably won him the most laurels, won in 1915 of the year, the US Grand Prix and the Vanderbilt Cup. In year 1916 this was joined by a victory in the competition 500 Indianapolis mile. In September 1924 r. died in a Sunbeam car while attempting to break a speed record in Brookland.
