The wagon is the fourth variation of the body of the VIII generation Corolla model. Car in 1999 year, it underwent a small cosmetic front end – the shape of the headlights has been changed, bonnet and front bumper. Inside, the center console and the instrument cluster housing have a different look. In addition, the vehicle was equipped with new engines with variable-phase timing – the WTi family. Corolla gained dynamics and flexibility, but kept fuel consumption low, distinguishing the previous model from the group of competitors.
The interior of the Corolla, just like the Avensis model, has very good ergonomics, clear instrument cluster, Easily accessible levers and switches. It is kept in bright colors, optimistic colors, which enlarge them optically. However, the size of the interior is a disadvantage (wheelbase 2465 mm) compared to European competitors in this segment. This manifests itself in less legroom for rear seat passengers. The basic equipment of the car is of an average level – steering wheel airbag, power steering, immobilizer and on-board computer. Supplementing the equipment with a second pillow, system ABS, electric windows and adjustable mirrors.
The refined suspension ensures both good adhesion of the wheels to the surface and good comfort, and its work does not cause unpleasant and bothersome noise. The steering system works smoothly and precisely, which, combined with a small turning radius, allows you to easily perform complex maneuvers in parking lots. The brakes stop the car in an emergency without much difficulty, even on uneven and damaged surfaces.
The Wagon variety is the most controversial, from a stylistic point of view, Corolla version. This is due to the shape of the rear part of the car with a strongly sloped rear door and a significantly tapered body near the roof. This arrangement of the car body causes, that the cargo space has a small capacity – 310 dm3 to the window line with the rear bench folded out and a maximum of only 965 dm3. Despite the low volume, the boot floor does not have a sill to make it difficult to handle the load, and in the floor there are hooks for fixing the transported items. Unfortunately, the wheel arches and rear suspension component housings significantly narrow the load space. These features make, that the Corolla station wagon can only be treated as a family car with increased luggage space, and not like a typical station wagon for transport tasks. Giving up the Corolla Wagon of goods in a small company, we can consider it a convenient means of transport for everyday commuting, helpful with larger purchases and providing enough space for holiday or weekend equipment for families with young children.
