Volkswagen managers want to make Seat brand sportier and the first model to implement this idea is the Toledo. Attractive appearance, elegant interior and powerful engines are set to face a lot of competition. Proven components are the recipe for success, which certainly won't tarnish Seat's honor. In Toledo used 65% elements from other models of the Volkswagen concern. The comfortably furnished interior is made of high-quality materials, and the precision of assembly can be a model for other vehicles of this size. The light color of the seats and the door upholstery are optimistic. The spacious interior did not reduce the volume of the luggage compartment (500 dm3), which still has a full-size spare wheel.
A sporty character? In Toledo, a VW Golf floor plate was used, so it is hard to expect sophisticated, sports solutions. Front McPherson struts, rear steering axle with separately mounted shock absorbers and springs. However, the whole thing behaves very correctly, thanks to the perfectly selected characteristics of the individual suspension elements. The driving comfort is subordinated to the sporty character of the vehicle and the suspension is firmer than in the sedate limousines.
And the engines? There is a choice of petrol engines with a displacement 1,6 dm3 (74 kW), 1,8 dm3 (92 kW), V5 2,3 dm3 (110 kW) or diesels with direct fuel injection 1,9 dm3 (66 the 81 kW). In relation to the price and dynamics, preferably a 4-cylinder dm3 engine with five valves in each cylinder, variable intake manifold length and variable valve timing. This successful drive unit achieves torque 170 Nm, which allows for decent acceleration times. Another advantage is the low vibration level and from this point of view the larger V5 engine, actually VR 5 (small angle between the cylinders) it is not better at all.
If Seat does not yet have the same sporting prestige as other brands, Toledo makes up for it with good dynamics, high-quality workmanship and rich equipment. Maybe sometimes it is worth departing from the usual stereotypes and showing yourself in Seat. This is, in fact, a German car as well.
