LAUNCHES APRILIA – year 1937

Manufacturer: Lancia Cia Automobilli Factory, Turin, Italy.

The Lancia car factory has always been distinguished by avant-garde car designs, ahead of their time. Its innovative solutions included an electric starter in the Theta model, independent suspension of the front wheels on the Lambda model, as well as the adjustment of the braking action in the Superjolia.

The new Aprilia, presented publicly in 1937 r., of course he could not lag behind. Its self-supporting, the aerodynamic body met the designers' expectations - by reducing the drag coefficient, the car's speed was increased.

Modeled on the successful Lambda engine, the April engine was a 4-cylinder V-shaped engine, with cylinders forming an angle of 17 °, water cooled (cylinder diameter 73 mm, piston stroke 83 mm) had a capacity 1351 cm and developed power 34,5 kW (47 KM). The engine block and cylinder heads were made of light aluminum alloy. The valves were moved by the camshaft in the cylinder head. The independent suspension of the front wheels was sprung by coil springs with hydraulic shock absorbers, telescopic. The rear axle suspension was carried out by means of torsion bars. Lancia Aprilia was the first car of the holiday, which did not have any lubrication points. The steering rods were arranged in silent blocks, and the front telescopic shock absorbers lubricated automatically. An interesting solution was a 4-door self-supporting body. To make it easier to get in and out, there is no post between the doors, which, of course, opened "from each other”. Thanks to the shape of the body of the Pinin Farina company, the car developed speed 125 km/h.

Lancia Aprilia has become the most famous and popular type of alphabetical series of the Turin car factory. Well-known stylists have tested their craftsmanship on high-quality chassis, how: Will it go?, Bertone, Zagato, Cheese maker, Touring, Savro, Castagna and many others.
