After the success of the 7-liter Silver Ghost model, produced continuously since 1906 do 1924 r., there was a need for a second, smaller model. It was then that the type arose 20 with an engine capacity 3,1 liter, whose chassis, costly 1100 pounds sterling, it was half the price of a large model. The separately produced body was also paid separately. Type 20 took over from the Silver Ghost a 4-speed gearbox and power-assisted brakes 4 wheels. W 1929 r. engine capacity increased to 3,7 liter. Model marked with 20-25, produced to 1937 r., he was the last Rolls-Royce, where the company gave the engine power. A car weighing almost two tons thanks to its power 55,2 kW (75 KM) he was developing speed 120 km/h. Since then, the company's employees answered the question about the engine power most often laconically: sufficient.

The good properties of the big brother Silver Ghost also retained the new Phantom I model, which was first presented to the public in 1925 r. The car had a new concept 6-cylinder in-line engine, with camshafts in the cylinder head. At cylinder diameter 105 mm and piston stroke 140 mm reached capacity 7688 cm3. At compression ratio 5,25 it is estimated at 74 kW (100 KM) by 3500 RPM. The car had some interesting technical solutions. A special regulator kept it constant, the selected speed. The ignition timing was regulated by the oil pressure. Drive to the rear axle was via a 4-speed gearbox. The American version of the Phantom I., produced in Springfield, Massachusetts up to 1931 r., it had left-hand steering wheels and a 3-speed gearbox.

Classic chassis, sprung with leaf springs, had mechanical brake booster and hydraulic shock absorbers. Until 1929. made in England in total 2212 copies of this model, recognized as "qualitatively the best car in the world”.

After four years, the Phantom II appeared, a w 1 936 r. Phantom III was produced until World War II.
